Business as Usual as ERCB OKs Kananaskis Sour Gas Pipeline

A twenty-month-long hearing process held by the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) into a major new sour gas development proposal in Kananaskis Country resulted in little more than a rubber stamp, and business as usual. ERCB’s June 6 Decision 2010-022 gives the go-ahead for Petro Canada (now Suncor) to drill 11 new sour gas wells, and build a 37-kilometer pipeline through land recently recognized by the Alberta government as Nationally Significant. Alberta Minister Commended for Key Step in Grizzly Bear Recovery

Sierra Club Canada and the more than 1200 participants in Action Grizzly Bear are commending Alberta's Sustainable Resource Development Minister, Mel Knight, and his Cabinet colleges for listing Alberta's grizzly bears as a Threatened Species under Alberta's Wildlife Act, a necessary step to recovery that was first recommended by the government's multi-stakeholder Endangered Species Conservation Committee in 2002. CPAWS answers questions about the Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement

Recently, eight conservation groups, including AEN member groups CPAWS and Greenpeace, signed one of the largest conservation agreements in the world with the Canadian forest industry. Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement

Eight conservation groups, including AEN members CPAWS and Greenpeace, and the Canadian forest industry have signed off on one of the largest conservation agreements in the world. The Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement covers 72 million hectares of publically owned forests — an area twice the size of Germany.

Climb and Run for Wilderness 2010 an outstanding success!

An estimated 1,500 climbers brought forth their wild side today in support of Alberta's wildlife and wilderness at the 19th annual Earth Day celebration held at the Calgary Tower. Participants came from as far as Tampa, Florida and Vancouver, B.C.

Alberta Wilderness Association (AWA) played host to the 19th Annual Climb & Run for Wilderness. "Truly the Best Earth Day Event in the West, and a celebration of Alberta's wildlife and wild spaces, this event attracted the largest crowds ever, and the widest range of people, corporations and supporters. The day was filled with the knowledge that we can truly make a difference," says AWA Executive Director Christyann Olson. Read more about Climb and Run for Wilderness 2010 an outstanding success!

On Saturday April 17, more than 1,000 Calgarians of all ages are expected to attend the 19th Annual Climb & Run for Wilderness at the Calgary Tower. Hosted by Alberta Wilderness Association, this is Calgary’s premier Earth Day celebration, where participants take this unique opportunity to climb the 802 stairs to the top of the Calgary Tower. Warm-Up Time for Calgary Tower Climbers

On stairwells all around the city, enthusiastic climbers are brushing off the winter cobwebs and warming up those leg muscles, getting ready to climb to the top of the Calgary Tower this coming Saturday.

Saturday April 17 is, of course, the date for the city’s premier Earth Day celebration, the Annual Climb & Run for Wilderness, hosted by Alberta Wilderness Association (AWA). There are now just four days to go until the Tower will open to people of all ages and abilities, who will scale the stairs, all 802 of them, in support of Alberta’s beautiful wild lands, wild waters and wildlife.
