How does Calgary stack up to other cities when it comes to encouraging citizens to ride their bikes to work? What are we doing right? What can we be do better?

That is the topic of a special panel discussion on bike commuting hosted by Sierra Club Canada’s Chinook Group on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 7 pm at the Calgary Area Outdoor Council (CAOC) building at 1111 Memorial Drive NW on the Bow River pathway (upstairs, entrance at the back). Voting guide to the "Climate Crisis Election"

Sierra Club Canada has unveiled its ranking of the federal parties on what the club is referring to as the “climate crisis election.” The guide is available on Sierra Club Canada’s website: www.sierraclub.ca “There is no doubt that the climate crisis will be a pivotal factor in the upcoming federal election,” said Stephen Hazell, executive director of Sierra Club Canada. “Polling consistently reveals that Canadians want Canada to do its fair share to avoid dangerous climate change, and they know we are not doing that now.” Read more about Sierra Club Chinook Group Update: September 9, 2008

Volunteer Call-Out: Nuclear Street-Teaming

Take to the streets to talk to Calgarians one on one about the nuclear industry in Alberta. It will be a great chance to expand the 'keep Alberta nuclear-free' petition and help build the movement refusing the most dangerous industry from taking root in our province.

On Friday, August 29, Sierra Youth Coalition bikers from across Canada will be arriving to Calgary after having pedalled all the way from the tar sands.

After meeting impacted communities and sharing what they have learned along the way, Calgary will be the final stop.

They deserve a warm welcome and the loudest of microphones for what they will share.

Our "Tar Sands House Party" kits are all you need to host a social event with an environmental justice theme! Invite your friends over for a potluck or a wine and dessert evening, watch a video about the issue of your choice, look at images of Alberta's tar sands region or nuclear power, and read letters written by those directly affected by these developments. Then, engage in a discussion about what you can do to make your voice heard! Kits include "Common Q&A" on each topic as well as "Suggested Discussion Questions" to get you going, and much more!
