Public Information Sessions on Proposal to Establish OH Ranch Heritage Rangeland

Alberta Tourism Parks & Recreation

As part of the Ministry of Tourism, Parks, and Recreation's commitment to consult with stakeholders and the general public on changes to Alberta's parks, we'd like to inform you of two opportunities for public comment on our proposal to establish a new heritage rangeland in Southern Alberta.

The proposed heritage rangeland, located near the Village of Longview, will be named the OH Ranch Heritage Rangeland if it is established (Please note that this proposal was formerly referred to as "Longview-Pekisko Heritage Rangeland"). It celebrates and continues a 125 year legacy of range management, and represents an important part of Alberta's native grasslands. The focus of heritage rangelands is to ensure the protection of Alberta's ranching culture through the continuation of traditional grazing approaches that have been used to steward our native grasslands for so many years. We welcome your interest and input on this proposal.

The public information sessions will be held:

July 16, 2008

Location:
Ranchland Administration Building & Park Office
Chain Lakes Provincial Park
Hwy 22 (entrance at intersection of Hwy 533)
Time: 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

July 17, 2008

Location: Fish Creek Public Library
11161 Bonaventure Drive SE
Calgary
Time: 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Your input on the proposal is a very important part of the process and we encourage you to provide your feedback.

In addition to in-person comments at the information sessions, input on the proposal to establish the heritage rangeland can be submitted in a number of other ways, including online submission. For more information or to provide your feedback, please visit http://www.tpr.alberta.ca/parks/consult/OHRanch/ . The deadline for submissions is July 29, 2008.

A management plan will also be prepared for the proposed heritage rangeland to consolidate all existing management direction found in legislation, regulation, and policy applicable to heritage rangelands. The purpose of the plan will be to describe how the site will be managed if established. This document will be released for public review. Updated information regarding the management planning process will be posted on the website listed above.
