16th Annual Climb & Run for Wilderness

Whether they are a corporation, a family or a just a solid group of friends, they know one thing for sure - Elevators are for Sissies!</p><p>Alberta Wilderness Association (AWA) brings back the Team Challenge that has every member reaching new heights, the <a href="http://www.climbforwilderness.ca">16th Annual Climb &amp; Run for Wilderness</a>.</p><p>This Earth Day, team participants are challenging themselves and others by competing to see how many times they can climb the Calgary Tower&#39;s 802 stairs. Along the climb, challengers will be protecting Alberta&#39;s wild spaces through team fundraising for the AWA&#39;s conservation and education work.</p><p>With competitors such as Luke Way and his team from the Critical Speed triathlon club, others will need to step up, and quickly, if they hope to break the team&#39;s 106 climbs or Way&#39;s individual record of 30 climbs.</p><p>&quot;I grew up in the National Parks so keeping wilderness safe is important to me,&quot; says Way. &quot;The Climb is the perfect environment to start the season with. I&#39;ll be back and looking for lucky number 31.&quot;</p><p>Still, the Team Challenge is not just for hardcore athletes and the masochistic. &quot;Some teams will only make one ascent of the stairs but all teams enjoy the challenge and support a vision of wild Alberta,&quot; says Christyann Olson, executive director and captain of AWA&#39;s own A-Team. </p><p>As Calgary&#39;s premier Earth Day event, this is a great way for teams to get out and support conservation and education work that helps sustain Alberta&#39;s wild spaces.</p><p>The Climb &amp; Run for Wilderness will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at the Calgary Tower.</p><p>The day&#39;s schedule of events includes:</p><p>8:00 a.m. Run for Wilderness<br />8:15 a.m. Team Challenge<br />8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Climb for Wilderness<br />9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Wild Alberta Expo<br />2:00 p.m. Awards Ceremony</p><p>More information on the Climb &amp; Run for Wilderness can be found on our website:<a href="http://www.climbforwilderness.ca/"> http://www.climbforwilderness.ca</a> </p><h3>About the Alberta Wilderness Association<br /></h3><p>Founded in 1965, the Alberta Wilderness Association (AWA) is the oldest wilderness conservation group in Alberta dedicated to the completion of a protected areas network and the conservation of wilderness throughout the province.
