Working with a space approximately 2 metres wide by 2.6 metres long (6' by 8'), these visionaries are creating a wonderful legacy for the City of Calgary while building awareness of our province's wild spaces and the conservation work that goes into protecting them.

These special artworks, normally closed to the public, are viewed only once a year during April's Earth Day Climb & Run for Wilderness, when participants climb past the murals on their way up the Calgary Tower's 802 stairs.

The Mural Competition will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2007 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Calgary Tower. AWA is expecting their biggest turn out ever this year with 18 teams competing in five categories. Winners will receive Climb & Run for Wilderness Limited Edition fleece wear. All participants will be able to enjoy refreshments courtesy of Tim Hortons.

The murals will be open for the public to see during the Climb & Run for Wilderness event that will be held on April 21, 2007.

More information on the Mural Competition and Climb & Run for Wilderness can be found on our website: http://www.climbforwilderness.ca

About the Alberta Wilderness Association

Founded in 1965, the Alberta Wilderness Association (AWA) is the oldest wilderness conservation group in Alberta dedicated to the completion of a protected areas network and the conservation of wilderness throughout the province. With four decades of success, we are known for our tenacity, corporate memory and integrity. We have a provincial office and resource centre in Calgary, and active members throughout Alberta. A great deal of our work is carried out by volunteers. AWA is a non-profit, federally registered, charitable society.
