For our May Sierra Club Chinook meeting, we have two things lined up:
- Naheed Gilani on Socially Responsible Investing, and
- Sierra Club Campaign Update and new opportunities to volunteer and get involved.
Certified in SRI (Socially Responsible Investing), Naheed Gilani has a presentation that will help ensure your personal values align with your investment portfolio. With more and more corporations recognizing the importance of reputational risk management, investment firms are offering an expanded range of mutual funds and ETF's to find those companies that place environment, social, and governance factors at the forefront. Naheed will cover specific companies that have changed their behaviors based on shareholder initiatives.
We will also provide updates on what is happening with various Sierra Club campaigns around Alberta, including:
- Building community support for Grassroots Civic Engagement
- Got Thirst? Protecting Water for People and the Environment
- Action H2O!
- RePower Alberta: Putting power back into the hands of Albertans
- Action Grizzly Bear
- The Castle Crown Wilderness
Lastly, we will have new volunteer descriptions and opportunities for people to learn more about how to get involved and sign up to be a part of the Sierra Club Chinook Group and Campaign team.
The Sierra Club Chinook Group holds a free, monthly public meeting at 7 pm on the first Wednesday of each month at the Calgary Area Outdoor Council building (1111 Memorial Drive NW, upstairs, entrance at the back).
