The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency today issued the draft "Technical Guidance for Assessing Cumulative Environmental Effects under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012" (Technical Guidance).

The Technical Guidance aims to ensure that requirements related to the assessment of cumulative environmental effects under theCanadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012, are met in a way that achieves high-quality environmental assessments.

The Technical Guidance provides support in determining how to conduct a cumulative effects assessment while allowing for flexibility in identifying the most appropriate methodology and methods. It also provides specifications on what should be documented during the cumulative effects assessment.

Public Comment Period

The Agency invites members of the public, Aboriginal groups and environmental assessment practitioners to provide comments on the draft Technical Guidance. Written comments should be submitted to the Agency at [email protected] by June 30, 2015. Comments will be reviewed and considered in finalizing the Technical Guidance.

Inviting the public, Aboriginal groups and environmental assessment practitioners to comment on the Technical Guidance is an opportunity to ensure that direction on assessing cumulative environmental effects remains robust and includes the views of stakeholders.

The Agency continues to promote and support meaningful public and Aboriginal participation in environmental assessments.
