1. Drumheller says no to supplying water to the Balzac development

A controversial proposal to pipe water from the Red Deer to a development in the Bow River basin has run into a major stumbling block. On April 3, 2007, Town of Drumheller Council denied Municipal District of Rocky View's request to use Drumheller's water intake structure and works to withdraw water from the Red Deer River that would supply the United Horsemen's new development near Balzac, a few miles north of Calgary. The vote was unanimous.

Alberta's War on Pine Beetles - Using a Sledgehammer to Crack a Nut

Alberta Wilderness Association

News Release: April 12, 2007

The implications of the impending outbreak of mountain pine beetle (MPB) in Alberta look to be profound, but knee-jerk attempts to deal with the problem - or to be seen to deal with the problem - will likely do more damage than the beetles themselves. 1. Water Supply as a Limiting Factor for a New Town Proposed in the Bow Valley

Water supply may limit a new development-in fact, a new community of up to 5500 residents and over 2900 residential, commercial, and community facilities by 2022-in Alberta's Bow Valley. Public hearings are occurring on March 1 and March 5 at 1 pm and 7 pm, respectively, at the Exshaw Community Hall. Bow Riverkeeper will recommend to Council for the MD of Bighorn to delay approval of the Area Structure Plan (AS) until issues surrounding water supply and wastewater are addressed. Read More
