Motorized Access Levels in the Ghost Too High for Grizzlies

 Motorized access density in southern Alberta’s Ghost Watershed is more than three times that officially recorded by the Alberta government, and more than four times the maximum recommended in the province’s Grizzly Bear Recovery Plan says a new report released August 8. Motorized access levels in bear habitat strongly correspond to high mortality rates for grizzly bears. Read more »

World Water Monitoring Day


Members of the Alberta Environmental Network might be interested to learn about an international public education and outreach program organized annually by the Water Environment Federation and International Water Association.  The program is called World Water Monitoring Day, and it encourages people all around the world to get more personally connected to their local waterways through basic water quality monitoring.

AEN Groups weigh in on the proposed Lower Athabasca Regional Plan

As the consultation period on the Government of Alberta's proposed Lower Athabasca Regional Plan comes to a close— submissions are due June 6, 2011— AEN member groups have weighed in on the proposed plan, regulations, and frameworks.

In a recent op-ed, the Pembina Institute's Jennifer Grant states that:

…the current draft plan does more to defend the interests of oilsands developers than it does to protect the quality of Alberta's environment. Read more »
