Bring:
  • digging tool,
  • drinking water,
  • lunch,
  • insect repellent and
  • cup, utensils and plate for the BBQ.
  • If you are trained to use it, bring bear spray and holster.
Wear:
  • sunscreen,
  • a hat and
  • dress for the weather.

Climb and Run for Wilderness

On April 26 bring the whole family to join the Alberta Wilderness Association at the Climb and Run for Wilderness. Participants have the chance to climb the 802 stairs of the Calgary Tower, see the murals of the “tallest gallery in the west” and raise money to protect Wild Alberta. Each year almost 2,000 people, from babies in backpacks to 94 years old take part and support Alberta’s wilderness legacy and the conservation and education work that goes into protecting it. Edmonton's natural areas have tremendous ecological, social, educational and economic value. To preserve this value, it is up to us as a community to be good stewards of these ecologically-rich areas!

But keeping these natural areas clean, safe and sustainable is a big job, which is one of the reasons the City of Edmonton’s Office of Biodiversity created the Master Naturalist Program. Pembina reacts to CNRL’s application to resume oilsands operations while bitumen continues to leak near Cold Lake, Alberta

Erin Flanagan, Analyst at the Pembina Institute, made the following comments today in response to Canadian Natural Resources Ltd.’s (CNRL) application to resume steaming operations near areas experiencing on-going bitumen-emulsion releases:

“CNRL should not be allowed to increase high pressure cyclic steam stimulation (HPCSS) in proximity to the areas impacted by blowouts in 2013 until the Alberta Energy Regulator investigation is complete, the results have been made public and interested parties have had an opportunity to comment on recommendations arising from the investigation. It is premature to debate additional production until this report is complete and has been subject to public review.
