At last
week’s SEAWA conference, Hydrologist Richard Clissold made it very clear
with his statement “We’re in a desert here” in Medicine Hat and it's
getting drier every day. Water management is becoming an increasingly
important issue in Alberta, particularly in the South Saskatchewan River
Basin where we have seen extremely low flows with growing community and
industrial demands.

Great News! Deep Green Resistance Training Deadline Extended to March
24!
Due to the importance of having this training in Alberta, the organizers - Aric McBay, Lierre Keith, and Derrick Jensen, have
decided to remove the cap on the number of participants allowed to attend. The deadline for registrations is now March 24th. Please pass on to
folks who might be interested!
Derrick Jensen's Deep Green Resistance Training — Register Now!
Derrick Jensen and rad co-facilitating friends are likely gonna be coming
to Edmonton on March 26-28 to do a 3-day intensive workshop called Deep Green
Resistance. This 3-day workshop is particularly relevant to those of us who have been resisting the industrial developments
of more tar sands, nuclear power and other environmental destructive
projects. By bringing this conference to the prairies we will be building on the grassroots community that is already coming together, building on
our network and strengthening our skills to bring about the changes we
need to see.
The Deep Green Resistance training is a three-day workshop for activists,
changemakers, and other concerned or inspired folks who are interested in
delving into some critical reflection on the state of the world and our role in
fixing it. We live in the most destructive culture to ever exist. Yet does our
activism reflect that? If we really accept the seriousness of the situation,
what would that mean for our strategy and tactics? How do we build up a culture
of resistance? These are some of the questions that will be explored
over the weekend, while we build on our skills to continue doing good works.

What are Transition Towns?
Transition Towns (TT) are communities that seek out methods for reducing energy usage as well as increasing their own self reliance in positive response to climate change and ever-escalating prices in fossil fuels. They’re places that are more economically independent, ecologically sound, and socially connected. As a globally-connected marketplace, we are coming to realize that unbridled growth is not sustainable, and that reliance on imports from afar may become an impossibility within just a few years.
