Oil & Community: The Art & Science of Sustainability

Join the University of Alberta's Community Service-Learning Program and the Parkland Institute for a five-week speaker series that explores the impacts of the oil industry on Albertan communities. This series of talks is part of an interdisciplinary course at the University of Alberta that explores these themes by combining course work with community-facing projects in Fort McMurray. As such, the talks will pay particular attention to the impacts of the tarsands projects in northern Alberta on community sustainability.

Green Roof Policy Development Workshop - Calgary March 6th & Edmonton March 7th, 2007

Find out what leading jurisdictions are doing to turn wasted rooftops into cleaner air and water!

This half-day workshop will examine what kind of incentives currently exist in other jurisdictions, how the incentives are tied to performance standards and how policy makers can assess what types of incentive programs will work best in their areas. It will also provide a framework for planners and governmental agencies to gain an understanding of the multi-faceted impacts of green roofs and areas of consideration for implementing green roof policy. Tuition is $95 or $45 for NGO's and students. Read more »
