This report provides an overview of the brownfields issue within Alberta and examines existing barriers and gaps in Alberta's legislation which prevent brownfields from being redeveloped. The report also reviews selected case studies of brownfield projects in Alberta and strategies used in other jurisdictions, particularly Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia, to facilitate the reuse of brownfield sites. The report concludes with recommendations for law and policy reform.
