WATERWALKER Film Fesival - May 5th - Calgary

The WATERWALKER Film Festival, a collection of the best canoeing, kayaking and environmental films of the year, takes place on Friday, May 5th at the University of Calgary, KNB132, starting at 7:00 pm. The evening is presented by Undercurrents Paddling Store and the Calgary Outdoor Centre.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. They are available in person at Undercurrents Paddling Store (6531 Bowness Road) or by phone at 262-GEAR. All proceeds will benefit Bow Riverkeeper.

Both amateur and professional film makers have submitted their films from around the world. You can expect to see "everything from the serene to the extreme!" And of course Bow Riverkeeper's "The Big Bow Float: Journey Down the Emerald Thread."

The WATERWALKER Film Festival is a tribute to the late Bill Mason, the great conservationist, canoeist and filmmaker who cared passionately about his work and the wilderness.

Presented by Undercurrents and the U of C Outdoor Centre. See http://www.undercurrentsonline.com and "recent news."

4. Volunteer Opportunity Fish Creek/Bow River Clean-up - May 7th

Join Friends of Fish Creek Park! Spring is upon us, the snow has melted, and the litter that accumulated all winter is easy to spot. Litter is especially harmful to wildlife and to the delicate land near Fish Creek and the Bow River - but you can help fix this problem. Join us on May 7th, to help sweep the banks of the Bow River and Fish Creek clear of garbage. This will be a morning event, and for all your effort and hard work you'll be treated to a free BBQ generously donated by the Fish Creek Rotary Club. This is a great event for corporations, families and friends to give back to nature. We are all fortunate to have Fish Creek Provincial Park as a part of our community, so grab some friends, a pair of gloves, and come on down!

To register, please email [email protected] or phone (403)238-3841. http://www.friendsoffishcreek.org
