Public Presentation: Wind Energy in Alberta – Beyond Tokenism

Description:
By Tim Weis, Pembina InstituteFree presentation and discussion. Free refreshments at 6:30 pm Wind energy one of the fastest growing sources of energy in the world, and the province of Alberta has one of Canada’s best wind regimes but is still only harnessing less than 1/10th of its potential. How can the Province and individuals take advantage of this renewable resource? What barriers does the technology face? How can wind energy be moved from the margins to the mainstream? Mr. Weis will talk about the large and small wind power production, and the opportunities to move wind power off of websites and annual reports and into the ground. Tim Weis is a professional engineer and a Senior Technical and Policy Analyst with the Pembina Institute. His research focuses on renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions. Tim has co-authored numerous reports and manuals on renewable energy development, and several of these are specific to wind energy. He has developed software to complete community energy baseline inventories and has assisted more than 20 communities at various stages of development of renewable energy projects. Tim has a Master of Mechanical Engineering degree where he studied ice adhesion to wind turbine blades and is currently completing his PhD studying wind energy policy for remote Canadian communities. www.pembina.org Presented by: SESCI Solar Energy Society of Canada Inc.
