The Government of Alberta has not yet responded to the Oil Sands Multistakeholder's Recommendation and Report. This provides an opportunity for people who support the recommendations to lobby the Government to adopt and implement the recommendations. (Note: There are only three of the non-consensus recommendations that I as the ENGO representative on the panel I did not support.)
I would encourage you to take any or all of the following actions:
- Get a copy of the report and read it.
- Decide which of the recommendations you want to support. (You could indicate that you want the Government to implement all of the 96 consensus recommendations and the 21 non-consensus recommendations that I indicated support for. You may also want to pick out some of the recommendations you want to emphasize.)
- Write, phone, fax, email or arrange to meet with your MLA.
- Write, phone, fax, email or arrange to meet with the Ministers of Environment, Energy, and Sustainable Resource Development.
- Write, phone, fax, email or arrange to meet with the Premier.
- Write, phone, fax, email or arrange to meet with other Ministers.
- Write, phone, fax, email or arrange to meet with the Leaders and members of the Opposition Parties.
- Write letters to the editor of your newspaper(s) stating why you believe the government should implement these recommendations.
- Put out your own media release (or distribute the media release you received earlier from me today).
- Encourage other members of your organization and other people you know to take some or all of the above actions.
