Alberta Wilderness AssociationRelease Date: April 5, 2007On April 21, over 1,000 people will gather at the Calgary Tower to celebrate Alberta's wild legacy as part of the Earth Day weekend. Joining the throngs of climbers, runners, and volunteers at the 16th Annual Climb & Run for Wilderness will be the very people and organizations whose ongoing efforts directly support our province's natural heritage."Just as our Climb event is a celebration of our incredibly beautiful and diverse world, the Wild Alberta Expo is a celebration of all the hard work people do so others can be informed and active citizens in protecting nature," says Christyann Olson, executive director of the Alberta Wilderness Association which hosts the annual Earth Day event.With more than 20 organizations, groups and individuals showcasing their work, the Expo is a sure way to learn all about the daily efforts that go into protecting our wilderness. Face painters and wildlife mascots will be on hand to entertain children as well as local musicians will be showcasing their talents.New this year, the AWA is pleased to present the Wild Cat Theatre featuring documentary films about the issues facing Alberta's wilderness as well as environmental shorts from the Youth Animation Project, a program of the Quickdraw Animation Society for 15 to 30 year-olds facing employment barriers.As Calgary's premier Earth Day event, this is a great way for the public to learn more about the conservation and education work that helps sustain Alberta's wild spaces.The Climb & Run for Wilderness will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at the Calgary Tower.The day's schedule of events includes: 8:00 a.m.Run for Wilderness 8:15 a.m.Team Challenge 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.Climb for Wilderness 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.Wild Alberta Expo 2:00 p.m.Awards Ceremony More information on the Climb & Run for Wilderness can be found on our website: http://www.climbforwilderness.caAbout The Alberta Wilderness AssociationFounded in 1965, the Alberta Wilderness Association AWA) is the oldest wilderness conservation group in Alberta dedicated to the completion of a protected areas network and the conservation of wilderness throughout the province.
