Climb & Run for Wilderness
at the Calgary Tower (101 – 9th Ave. S.W.)

Saturday, April 17, 2010. 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

On Saturday April 17, more than 1,000 Calgarians of all ages are expected to attend the 19th Annual Climb & Run for Wilderness at the Calgary Tower. Hosted by Alberta Wilderness Association, this is Calgary’s premier Earth Day celebration, where participants take this unique opportunity to climb the 802 stairs to the top of the Calgary Tower.

  • Run for Wilderness: 8:00 a.m.
    Runners race 1 km around the base of the Calgary Tower, then sprint to the top.
  • Team Challenge: 8:15 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
    Corporate groups, families and friends team up and compete. Who will climb the stairs the most times?
  • Climb for Wilderness: 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
    Climbers take the 802 steps to the top of the Calgary Tower as many times as they can.
  • Wild Alberta Expo: 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
    More than 20 booths showcase local conservation work and issues.
  • Entertainment: All day
    Local musicians and dancers perform all day long, and face painters, clowns and wildlife mascots entertain the crowd.
  • Calgary's Tallest Art Gallery: All day
    Weary climbers can stop to admire the 100+ spectacular wilderness murals which brighten the tower’s stairwells.
  • Awards Ceremony: 2:00 p.m.
    For the most funds raised, the fastest runner, the most climbs, the oldest and youngest climber, the best team spirit and much more.

Please Note

  • Media are requested to check in at the elevation desk at the main entrance to the Calgary Tower upon arrival.
  • Camera crews will need to bring portable lighting for filming in the stairwells. There are no electrical plug-ins available in stairwells.
