Public Interest Alberta is hiring an Environmental Intern  

This position is being funded through the Youth Eco Internship Program (YEIP)*. This program places people aged 30 and under from diverse backgrounds into paid internship opportunities within the non-profit and community services sector in Canada with a focus on the environment. These positions, offered in a wide range of organizations, will help young Canadians learn the skills required to gain and sustain future employment within the sector.  

The YEIP project is a collaboration between the YMCA and YWCA Canada, with funding provided by the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The program encourages applicants from visible minority, Aboriginal, immigrant, refugee and traditionally marginalized communities to apply, and is committed to providing employment supports wherever possible.

$14/hour

Overview

The intern will be immersed in Alberta’s environmental community through the existing Environment Task Force of Public Interest Alberta. The intern will work with the PIA Executive Director and the Task Force Chair to develop and implement a communications and outreach strategy for the task force. The intern will learn about environmental advocacy and will gain office management, communications, and writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluation of current Environmental Task Force; membership, campaigns, resources 
  • Evaluation of role of Green Jobs as program for Environmental Task Force 
  • Writing and uploading materials to PIA website and employing social media tools
  • Media monitoring and assistance with media events
  • Help in the coordination of PIA conference and events
  • Outreach and communications to other PIA member organizations and task forces
  • Research into fundraising for continuation of internship position

Qualifications

  • Keen interest in getting involved in Alberta’s environmental work 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • Computer and internet proficiency, preferably with experience in CMS website maintenance, Youtube, Facebook, video and photo editing
  • Diversity training preferred
