Connecting Alberta’s environmental groups

We are a network of individuals and groups working together on shared concerns. AEN members include individuals and representatives from member groups that connect, collaborate and share information.

The AEN is a link between the environmental community and government, industry, the media and all Albertans.

Join the network

Albertans and environmental groups are welcome to join the AEN as members – there are memberships for both individuals and groups. Members contribute to preserving and protecting Alberta’s environment by sharing information and collaborating on shared issues. Learn more about becoming a member of the AEN.

The AEN supports an inclusive and diverse environmental community for all Albertans.

Big Bow Float Completed - Pictures Available!

Friends of the Bow River,

Together with Jim Kievit, Don Van Hout, and Rocco (our Lead Dog Paddler), I am pleased to announced we have paddled the entire length of the Bow River. After 29 days of hiking & paddling, thousands of paddle strokes, many hot days, and a few hundred mosquito bites, we are finished!

We have just published a complete set of journals and pictures from the entire trip with some fantastic pictures of this beautiful river system. Go to the Trip Progress section, click on sections of the river, read our written reports, and see the pictures!

We were blessed with excellent weather, injury-free paddling, and enthusiasm for our adventure. Through media outreach, we were able to reach thousands of others. Read More

Government announces Environmental Protection Commission

Edmonton... Alberta Environment Minister Guy Boutilier has announced the formation of an Environmental Protection Commission to review and make recommendations on Alberta's ability to respond to environmental incidents.

Boutilier announced the Commission will commence immediately, reviewing best practices for responding to environmental incidents and recommending changes the province needs to make.

"Alberta Environment is doing, and has been doing, everything possible to respond to this incident. I want to commend the many volunteers who, along with my staff, have worked tirelessly to protect the environment," said Minister Boutilier. "I agree with the Premier that we can always learn from these incidents how we can do better, and that's why I've established this commission to review our capability to respond to these types of situations and recommend how we can improve."
