YEP Calgary Career Night

YEP will be hosting a Career Night on April 14th at Deville's with doors opening at 5:00 pm and speakers starting at 5:30 pm.

Three distinguished inviduals will speak about their career paths and lessons learned, which will be followed by an opportunity to interact directly with the individual speakers in smaller groups.

Don Wharton, Vice-President, Sustainable Development, TransAlta

Don Wharton is responsible for leading TransAlta’s sustainability initiatives, including implementing TransAlta’s strategic approach to environmental policy, climate change, and managing its carbon offsets portfolio.

Mr. Wharton joined TransAlta in 1994 and has worked in the energy and environment field for almost 30 years. Prior to this role, Mr. Wharton worked in both the Sustainable Development and Energy Marketing Departments at TransAlta, and previously in both the public sector and as an environmental consultant. Don has a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the University of Calgary.

Evelyn Walker, Director at ICECAP Canada

For the last ten years Evelyn Wharton has developed expertise related to climate change in both a large public utility setting and in a private equity fund setting. This expertise includes policy analysis, climate change strategy development and implementation, management of GGCAP, one of the largest greenhouse gas compliance funds in the world, commercial negotiations and structuring for the puchase of emission reductions in the CDM and JI markets, leading the commercial due diligence process, and leading the development of the processes for the efficient settlement and delivery of certified credits to multiple participants in the fund. Her strengths include strategic vision, directing and leading teams, developing solid partnerships with clients and service providers, and process management.
