SESCI Talk: Living Lightly with Solar Energy

Dec 9 2008 - 7:00pm

25 years of comfort and low utility bills in Edmonton

By Garry and Cheryl Atchison

In 1983 Garry and Cheryl Atchison created an energy efficient/passive solar/partially earth-sheltered home in our climate - on a budget. Solar homes do not have to be big or expensive. Come hear the human practical side of living in a solar/energy efficient house in Edmonton. Their well thought out design has withstood the test of time.

How did they do it? What would they do differently? How is it to live in a solar house?

Free presentation and discussion. Free refreshments at 6:30 pm +

Garry is a retired meteorologist with a long time interest in energy policy and sensible alternatives. Cheryl has been a teacher of home economics. She operated a small direct sales business out of their home for ten years. Garry and Cheryl Atchison took a class in owner/contracting. They then hired a fellow member from SESCI-NAC as designer and they proceeded as contractors for the creation of their own home on less than 1000 sq. ft. foundation.
