'Ride the Road' Tour

August 23, 2009 - 6:00pm

Take
To The Streets on August 23!

Ever wonder what it would be like to ride your bike on the streets of
Calgary without fearing for your safety from vehicle traffic? For the
first time ever, the streets of Calgary will come alive with the hum of
bicycle wheels on the morning of Sunday, Aug. 23 as all cyclists are
invited to take part in a leisurely (or fast-paced) on-street,
closed-road ride through the inner city to raise awareness about the
advantages of pedal powered transportation.

Organized by the
newly-formed Calgary Tour de Nuit Society, with support of the
Sierra Club Chinook Group, the 14-kilometre ‘Ride the Road’ Tour will
start and finish next to the Bow River in downtown Calgary and tour
through the communities of Sunnyside, Bridgeland, Inglewood, Ramsay,
Roxboro and Mission and will be led by a police escort. The ride is
designed to highlight the impact of single-occupant motor vehicle
commuting on inner city suburbs and the need for improved
infrastructure in Calgary dedicated to safe and efficient bike
commuting. The event will also feature a community-oriented bike fair
at the staging area of the ride. For more information, and to register,
