Politics in the Park Series: Energy Security in a Time of Scarcity

Aug 2 2008 - 3:30pm

Sierra Club of Canada — Prairie Chapter

What does energy security mean in a world where oil and natural gas prices are hitting record highs, and how can Edmontonians begin to think about their energy in a way that will protect the earth as well as their own access to energy? What are the real alternatives to how energy is produced in Alberta right now, and how can these alternatives be implemented in a northern climate like ours?

Does the rising price of energy concern you? Have you been thinking about the uses of alternative energy sources, either as an environmental statement or as a way of saving money as the energy market becomes tighter?

Sierra Club Prairie invites you to join with us for an informative afternoon of discussion on the issue of Energy Security in Alberta. As large Canadian cities such as Toronto experience strategic brown-outs due to energy supply issues, where is Edmonton headed?

Jessica Warren, Grassroots Organizer for Sierra Club Prairie, will be speaking to the political situation in Alberta surrounding energy issues. As Alberta is a net-export province, what are we to make of the fact that we are having more and more energy projects pushed through, at the cost of Alberta's land and the peoples' health?

Please join us for an afternoon of discussion - come with food, questions, comments, and curiosity! Children welcome.
