Learning Session—EcoCity Edmonton: Community Sustainability Grants

May 12 2015 - 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Announcing EcoCity Edmonton: Community Sustainability Grants!

We are pleased to partner with the City of Edmonton to deliver environmental grants to help support energy literate citizens with energy conserving lifestyles and a strong shift to active and public transportation.

Alberta Ecotrust and the City of Edmonton believe that protecting and improving the environment within Edmonton’s borders is everyone’s responsibility. Through EcoCity Edmonton, citizens can learn about Edmonton’s environmental vision, find inspiration to take action in their community, and apply for a grant to help get ideas off the ground.

This program was piloted in 2014 by the City of Edmonton as the Neighbourhood Action Program.

Program Details

We believe these grants, available to nonprofits, community leagues, schools and charities, will inspire Edmontonians to work on these challenges and provide them with support to collaborate and create positive environmental change in their own backyards.

The focus will be on community projects that help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through projects that align with the City’s Energy Transition Strategy. There will also be funds available for projects that focus on water, biodiversity and land use, and air quality.

Full program details and criteria for proposals will be available when the application portal goes live on May 15. Deadline for applications will be June 22.

Examples of neighbourhood projects from the pilot in 2014 include:

  • Solar project with Hillview School
  • Bike racks and fixing station in Boyle
  • Community Orchard in McCauley
  • Rain barrel and composter project in Old Strathcona
  • Indoor garden in Mayfield School
  • Living wall in Old Strathcona

You must attend one of the learning sessions to apply for the grants.
