Integrating Wind and Solar: The German Experience

Oct 8 2013 - 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Germany is at the forefront of the intelligent integration of wind and solar power into the existing electricity supply system.

Renewable power generation is variable, relying on the availability of wind and solar. With increasing amounts of variable power generation, power systems require new methods of balancing supply and demand as well as new approaches of grid operation.

Virtual Power Plants and Smart Grid technologies are being pioneered in Germany to support the integration of renewable energies and enable a high level of security, coupled with efficiency and climate protection.

Dr. Rohrig is the Deputy Director of Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology and Head of Energy Economy and Grid Operation Division.
