AWA Tuesday Talk— Water For Tomorrow: All-Party Candidates Forum on Water Issues

Mar 28 2012 - 7:00pm

“The reality is that fresh water is more valuable than crude oil.”
Peter Lougheed, Former Alberta Premier, 2005

In recent years, many Albertans have been engaged in a number of important water issues, and ensuring the security of our source water has become vitally important to each one of us. We believe there is both a need and high interest to discuss Alberta water resources policy and decision making. We hope you will attend this forum.

Candidates confirmed to represent their parties are the following:

  • EverGreen Party – Larry Ashmore (Candidate for Livingstone-Macleod)
  • Liberal Party – David Swann (Candidate for Calgary-Mountain View)
  • New Democrat Party – Robyn Luff (Candidate for Calgary-East)
  • Progressive Conservative Party – to be confirmed
  • Wildrose Party – Richard Jones (Candidate for Calgary-Acadia)

Moderator: Donna McElligott, CBC Radio

Panelists will discuss progress and concerns related to Alberta's water in three topics:

  1. Source water protection: rivers, wetlands, lakes.
  2. Industrial use and responsibility: oil sands, fracking, forestry, irrigation
  3. Water markets, water transfers

AWA's Tuesday Talks series is a venue for generating awareness and creative discussion of timely issues.
