A Wilderness Defenders Award will be presented to Ray Rasmussen

Ray first became active in wilderness matters in Alberta in 1979 when he helped form the AWA’s Edmonton Chapter. Since then he has also applied his organizational skills to the Alberta Environmental Network and the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society. Ray has helped to organize horse trips for AWA and CPAWS members in the Willmore Wilderness Park, the Ram-Clearwater area and other areas. Ray was also an AWA Director for ten years.

A Wilderness Defenders Award will also be presented to Helene Walsh

Helene Walsh has been a staunch defender of Alberta’s forests and wild spaces for decades. From helping to develop and improve the Forest Stewardship Council’s boreal standard to working to protect the Chinchaga Wildland, Helene has been a persistent voice and inspiration for the need to  protect and sustainability manage forests in Alberta.
