The Earth Charter is the product of a decade long, worldwide, cross-cultural conversation about common goals and shared values, resulting from the 1987 United Nations Commission on Environment and Development.

It is a people’s treaty that sets forth an important expression of the hopes and aspirations of the emerging global civil society:

  1. support and care for the community of life
  2. ecological integrity
  3. social and economic justice
  4. democracy non-violence and peace

Hosted by REAP Business Association, the Calgary Earth Charter Summit is part of an annual global celebration of sustainable living. For more information about the Earth Charter or to endorse it, please visit
