Calling on young environmentalists to join the RCEN at its June Assembly in Edmonton

Youth participants (10)
Application Deadline:
25 May 2009 (All day)

What: Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN) 2009 Annual General Assembly
Where: Edmonton, Alberta
June 12th to 14th 2009

The RCEN is looking for 10 youth participants (ages 18 to 30) from across the country to come and represent Canadian youth at this annual gathering of grassroots environmental organizations. This gathering is meant to tackle the most important environmental and policy issues faced in Canada and internationally. By mobilizing a group of youth, we hope to better integrate your voices in these issues, get you involved in the RCEN and give you an opportunity to meet other youth engaged in environmental issues, as well as some of the most experienced environmentalists in the country!

BiodiverCity: Cities of Nature, In Nature

To highlight the important relationship between cities and biodiversity, speakers at the event will explore the impact of urban demands on resources to the possibilities of growing more food locally and the benefits of natural areas within cities. Other scheduled activities include: panels on environmental assessment and sustainable community management; a workshop on nuclear energy; an inter-organizational fair; and a slam poetry session/music jam. More information about the AGA.

Expenses & Honoraria:

Selected delegates will have their registration fees — $150 value — and transportation covered by the RCEN. This includes all meals during the conference.

Please note that accommodation is not included (we can help you find a place to stay though).

Candidates must be:

  • Between 18 and 30 years of age (preference will be given to youth under 25);
  • A Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada;
