Call for Delegates: Athabasca River Water Management Framework

Background: 

The AEN is seeking 2 delegates and 2 alternates for the Phase II Decision Making Committee.

Purpose: The overall purpose of the committee and process is to develop a long-term water management framework for the Lower Athabasca River. The decisions regarding the Phase II Framework and any additional related recommendations of the planning process will be forwarded directly to Government regulators for final approval. The recommendations will also be forwarded as a deliverable to the CEMA Surface Water Working Group.

Membership: Membership on this committee is open to non-CEMA members. It is expected that participants will agree to the process guidelines already developed for committee participation. If you are interested in being a delegate, please read attached terms of reference and process guidelines for more details.

Time Commitment: 

Please note the following dates for upcoming meetings:

  • September 11-12, 2008 (ending at noon on Sept. 12) in Fort McMurray
  • October 16- 17, 2008 (ending at noon on Oct. 17) in Calgary
  • November 20-21, 2008 (ending at noon on Nov. 21) in Edmonton
  • January 8-9, 2009 (ending at noon on Jan. 9) in Calgary
  • February 25-26, 2009 (full two days) in Edmonton
Expenses & Honoraria: 

Travel Support and per diems will be offered to committee members as per current CEMA guidelines.

Selection Criteria: 

Qualifications

  1. Be a representative of an organization in good membership standing with the Alberta Environmental Network
  2. Be familiar with the interim Phase 1 Water Management Framework: Instream Flow Needs and Water Management System for the Lower Athabasca River
  3. Be able to converse in technical dialogue around Instream Flow Needs

Participation Requirements

  1. Be an active participant on committee
  2. Report back regularly and as appropriate to the AEN Water Caucus
  3. Agree to the terms and conditions outlined in the projects draft TOR and Process Guidelines
