Update: The December 11 vigil has decided to amalgamate with the December 12 vigil taking place at the Alberta Legislature from 5:30 - 6:30 pm.

The weekend of Dec 11-13 marks the mid-way point of the climate talks taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark. To mark the occasion people around the world will gather in solemn solidarity with the nations and peoples for whom delay on climate action could mean extinction.

This event will be a short, simple, dignified, family-friendly candlelight vigil for the planet on the steps of the magnificently-lit Alberta Legislature. And it could be the most important thing you do for the planet all year. Please share with your friends and family.

This December world leaders are gathering in Copenhagen to forge a new international climate agreement - essentially our global game plan to stop dangerous climate change. But not just any deal is good enough - it has to be a Real Deal: and that means Fair, Ambitious and Binding.

To The Streets on August 23!

Ever wonder what it would be like to ride your bike on the streets of
Calgary without fearing for your safety from vehicle traffic? For the
first time ever, the streets of Calgary will come alive with the hum of
bicycle wheels on the morning of Sunday, Aug. 23 as all cyclists are
invited to take part in a leisurely (or fast-paced) on-street,
closed-road ride through the inner city to raise awareness about the
advantages of pedal powered transportation.

This is the first of 4-6 climate camps that Greenpeace will be organizing across the country in the lead-up to Copenhagen. If you have members in or near Alberta would appreciate any help circulating the call out.

Everyday, people feel the worsening effects of climate change as the world’s temperature continues to rise. Our leaders have done little to nothing, leaving the planet undefended against the worsening effects of climate change.

Bring the kids and join The Wilderness Committee, Nuclear Free Alberta, the Sierra Club and 1000 origami Cranes at Edmonton City Hall to commemorate the dropping of an atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Two books will be read; Sadako by Eleanor Coerr to explain the significance of the paper cranes and Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who (which mentions the bombing of Hiroshima) to tell kids that their voice needs to be heard.

The event will also urge City Council to make Edmonton a Nuclear Free Zone.
