Celebrate Edmonton's Headwaters! The Bighorn Backcountry provides 86% of Edmonton's water - why isn't it protected?

The Bighorn Backcountry, near Nordegg, Alberta, provides Edmonton with 86% of its drinking water. However, this area is still designated as a series of Public Land Use Zones (PLUZs), meaning it is threatened by coal development, oil and gas activity, and forestry!

People's Climate Rally - Calgary

Nov 29 2015 - 2:00pm

From the Facebook event page:

On November 29th we have the best moment of the decade to pressure our leaders to avoid catastrophic climate change. Together we can rise to the challenge and make this the biggest climate mobilisation ever. Events are being held all over the world to kick off the UN Climate Negotiations in Paris that begin on November 30.

Here in Calgary, we will be holding a joyful rally to lend our voices to the global demand for an international climate treaty. But we're also going farther than that- after the outdoor rally, we will be heading indoors for a program of fantastic music, dance, and speakers. Then, we'll open it up for a mixer, where you can meet and mingle with other Calgarians who care about the climate crisis and find out how you can make a difference.

This event is family friendly, so bring your parents, your kids, your friends and your neighbours! Let's make this a historic day!

The People's Climate March Edmonton

Nov 29 2015 - 2:00pm

From the Facebook event page:

On November 29th, the eve of a historic summit on climate change, people across the world will take to the streets in their hundreds and thousands to inspire the world’s most powerful leaders to take ambitious action on the climate crisis.

With our future on the line and the world watching, we have the opportunity to meet this moment with unprecedented mobilizations in cities across the globe.

From New York to London and Delhi to Australia, we’ll take to the streets to demand the world as we know is within our reach: a world with an economy that works for the people; a world safe from the ravages of climate change; a world with good jobs, clean air and water, and healthy communities.

There is only one ingredient required: to change everything, we need everyone.

Event details: meet everyone at 2:00 PM at the Legislature grounds.
Taz Bouchier, Randy Haluza-DeLay and Godo Stoyke will be our guest speakers!
