From the Edmonton Resilience Festival website:

Mission Statement:

The Edmonton Resilience Festival aims to strengthen community resilience through skill-sharing workshops and other events, inspiring participants to help create a sustainable, creative and promising future. The festival will also help to restore a sense of community that is often lost in cities experiencing rapid development and population growth. By bringing together diverse participants and creating opportunities for learning, sharing and connecting, we hope to expand our horizons, our skill sets and our community networks.

What can we expect?

The inaugural Edmonton Resilience Festival will run February 7 and 8, 2015, at the beautiful Boyle Street Plaza in downtown Edmonton. We  have a mix of hands-on practical workshops, guidedConversation Cafés, art and social events, and a fair showcasing the work of community organizations called the Community Connections Fair.

Sep 30 2014 - 8:30am - 11:30am

Coal-fired plants make people sick and die, particularly children and those with chronic illnesses, and they cost society huge amounts of money desperately needed for other purposes.
—Dr Alan Lockwood, MD, The Silent Epidemic, MIT, 2012

The majority of Alberta's electricity is generated by coal fired plants (Alberta Energy, 2012). The research is now clear that burning coal comes with substantial human health costs. In Alberta alone coal contributes to over 100 fatalities and more than 4,000 asthma symptom days every year (Alberta study here). What are the impacts of coal on human health? How can Alberta include health issues related to burning coal in its energy strategy? Read more »
